Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
1. What is a Trench Mesh Spacer?
Trench Mesh Spacers (TMS) are a simple, yet essential product used in the building industry to maintain consistent spacing between the trench mesh in foundation cages. This ensures proper concrete coverage and structural integrity during the pouring process, helping to create strong, durable foundations.
2. How does using Trench Mesh Spacers benefit my project?
Saves time and money: Our spacers are easy to use, reducing labour costs and speeding up the process of preparing and pouring foundations.
Ensure accuracy: Consistent spacing improves the strength and integrity of your foundation.
3. Are your Trench Mesh Spacers suitable for all types of construction projects?
Yes, our Trench Mesh Spacers are versatile and can be used in various construction projects, from retaining walls and residential homes to large-scale commercial developments and infrastructure. We also offer custom solutions for projects with unique requirements.
4. What materials are your Trench Mesh Spacers made from?
Our Trench Mesh Spacers are made from Australian-made, Infrabuild Wire that conforms to AS/NZS471 standards and is ACRS Certified.
5. Can I order custom-sized spacers for my project?
Our Trench Mesh Spacers are available in the following sizes at your Steel Reinforcing Outlet:
If you require a spacer size that is not listed in the available sizes, please contact us to discuss whether we can manufacture a custom solution for your project.
6. How Many Spacers Come in a Pack/Bundle?
Each pack of Trench Mesh Spacers contains 50 clips (except for the 150mm and 250mm sizes, which come in boxes of 100 clips).
7. How Do I Calculate the Number of Trench Mesh Spacers I Need?
One pack of 50 spacers covers 12 linear metres of cages (for example, 2 cages of 6 metres each), with a pair of spacers used every 900mm (90cm).
To calculate how many TMS you need
Measure the total length (in linear metres) of the foundations requiring trench mesh cages.
Divide the total length by 12 (since one pack covers 12 linear metres).
For example, if you need 60 linear metres of coverage, divide 60 by 12, which gives you 5 packs of Trench Mesh Spacers.
Note: If you're using 150mm or 250mm spacers, you only need half as many packs since these sizes come in boxes of 100 clips.
8. How to Determine the Size of Trench Mesh Spacers (TMS) You Need
To figure out the correct size of Trench Mesh Spacers (TMS) for your project, refer to the footing depth and diameter of trench mesh (8mm, 11mm, 12mm, 16mm) specified in the plans provided by your engineer.
A general guideline is to make your mesh cage 100mm smaller than the depth of your foundation. This accounts for:
A 50mm plastic trench mesh support attached to the bottom of the cage.
A 50mm concrete cover above the cage.
For example: if your plans specify a footing depth of 500mm using 11mm trench mesh, a 400mm 11TM Spacer is required using 11mm trench mesh.
By following this rule, you ensure that the spacers are correctly sized for your foundation.
7. Are your products compliant with industry standards?
Yes, all of our Trench Mesh Spacers are manufactured to meet industry standards for quality, strength, and safety. We ensure that our products adhere to relevant building codes and regulations to help you achieve the best results on every project.
